Addiction Support in Hertfordshire

Addiction is a difficulty faced by many at some point in their life. While it isn’t always easy to recognise (or accept) that you or a loved one has a problem with addiction, there is support available in Hertfordshire. You do not have to suffer alone. Thinking about your options for support, even if you decide you are not ready to reach out just yet, is an incredibly important and brave thing to do.

The following is a collection of Hertfordshire support services for those dealing with addictions. There are different options to suit your needs: group sessions, individual sessions, face-to-face sessions, online sessions, and more. We hope you find an option that suits you so you can feel your best again.

Addiction Counselling

Provided by: The Trauma Practice

Description:

Addiction counselling involves talking through the difficulties which you might be having in relation to the addiction itself and life as a whole. It will also involve what might be underlying the addiction and processing unresolved difficulties. Addiction counselling is centred around self-empowerment, taking positive action in line with values to move forward without the addiction.

Addiction is usually accompanied by secondary conditions which might include trauma, anxiety and depression. These secondary difficulties will also be addressed. The Trauma Practice can also signpost to other organisations and groups who will be able to help. Examples include, Gambler Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous.

Description: Many people with Borderline Personality Disorder face addiction. Specialist therapy for people with Borderline Personality Disorder and Dual Diagnosis, such as addiction, is available here.

Addiction/Co-dependency Therapy Group

Description: For people living with addiction. The beauty of group therapy is the differing dynamics others can bring to your journey of healing. During this group therapy process you will have the opportunity to discuss any of your struggles related to addictive behaviours and co-dependency and feel supported by the group members who will be experiencing very similar struggles. The group will be professionally facilitated in a safe space, with complete confidentiality amongst those four walls. As humans we seek connection, group therapy gives us the opportunity to form bonds based on true unity with one another.

Description: Breaking Free Online is a free, online treatment and recovery program. It’s for anyone addicted to alcohol or drugs. You can sign up for the treatment programme using the access code herts11.

The Rehab Recovery helpline provides information on treatment options for all types of addiction, such as drugs, alcohol, shopping, OCD, and food addictions, for ages 16+. This service can help people with dual diagnosis, such as BPD, grief, PTSD or schizophrenia alongside addiction, find the right support.
