Domestic Abuse Helpline:

Service provided by: Herts Domestic Abuse Helpline

Description:

Run by charity, providing a safe space for people to discuss their situation. They can provide the information you need to take control, feel empowered, and take the next step. The Helpline works with victims, perpetrators, and families, on a range of issues including domestic violence, FGM, forced marriage, honour based abuse and more.

All calls are confidential and anonymous, and will not show up on your telephone bill. You can also email, but be careful to cover your tracks. There is a guide on their website to help you do this.

It may be a specific situation that brings you to counselling, a sad or troubling event. Domestic abuse affects all family members both as victims and witnesses, which is why a family service, designed around clients needs, is essential in recovering from domestic abuse. Support is available for men, women, and children, to help the whole family recover.

Trauma Therapy

Service provided by: The Trauma Practice

Description:

Trauma therapy helps you process and understand your past difficulties, learn to engage with the present and enable you to develop the resources for the future through self-empowerment.

The first session which you attend will be an assessment. This enables your therapist to understand you in a holistic way and enables you to tell us what you are having difficulty with. You will then work together to decide the best approach for you and ways in which you might like to work.

Trauma therapy prioritises safety, stabilisation and psycho-education as a main focus before processing of any trauma can take place.

PTSD Treatment with EMDR

Service provided by: The Trauma Practice

Description:

The structure of PTSD treatment is dependent on the client being treated. They place an emphasis on safety, grounding, stabilisation and building a strong therapeutic relationship between client and therapist.

Trauma Practice offers the mainstream evidence-based treatment for PTSD called: Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). This is a bilateral stimulation therapy which enables you to process a traumatic memory as if it was a normal memory. Once this happens the mind and body can begin to recover in a normal way and a normal life can be resumed.
