This is a list of volunteering opportunities and voluntary organisations.  Most of these voluntary roles can be undertaken online (virtual) but some will require you to attend in person.

Online Volunteering Opportunities: 

AXS Map

  • Help to map accessible places within your community 
  • Rate locations for entryway and/or bathrooms by criteria 
  • Available via PC or by mobile 
  • You must 18 years or older to access the site.  For those aged between 13 – 17 you must have parent /guardian permission 

Be My Eyes

  • A free app that connects blind and low vision people with sighted volunteers through a live video call 
  • Download the app, register as a volunteer and get notifications when a blind or low vision user needs help (checking expiry dates, reading instructions, distinguishing colours or navigating new surroundings) 
  • Register as a volunteer via the app 
  • You must be at least 17 years old to use the services 

ebird

  • Enjoy watching birds and record your sightings 
  • Contribute towards science and conservation by recording your sightings, sounds and photos 
  • Download the app to record your sightings as well as finding locations local to you for bird watching 

Shout

  • 24/7 text service for anyone in a crisis 
  • Make a difference by helping others in distress 
  • You must be resilient and mentally robust 
  • Over 18 years of age to volunteer 

The Mix

  • Support service for young people under 25 via online, social and mobile 
  • From mental health, homelessness to finding a job 
  • A range of virtual volunteering opportunities including boards moderator, general chat moderator, support chat moderator, digital connector, online volunteer counsellor, service innovators committee members to young ambassadors 
  • Gain the skills, experience and qualifications to advance your career 

UN Volunteers

  • Put your skills into action via writing and editing, art and design, translation, COVID-19 Response, teaching and training, project development and management, technology development, research, leadership & strategy, outreach and advocacy, volunteer management, administration, event organisation to healthcare services 
  • Register online to become a volunteer

  • Contribute to real cutting edge research in many fields across the sciences, humanities, and more
  • Over 80 projects to choose from to suit your interests
