Coaching for Complex Emotional Needs / A guide for referring partners
How our service works
The Guideposts CEN coaching service does not provide psychotherapy or counselling.
We provide tailored, trauma informed coaching interventions, drawn from a range of change-orientated therapeutic approaches. These are evidence-based approaches used in the treatment of personality disorder.
We focus on engaging the individual in a strong alliance and create a safe space where people feel listened to, respected, validated, and not judged.
We provide an opportunity for the individual to build a psychological understanding of their lived experience and mental health, including their thinking, mood and behaviour. We enable people to to:
• Gain self-understanding.
• Build a picture of a life worth living.
• Shape future skills and effective coping strategies.
• Develop new and appropriate ways of connecting with others.
• Develop adaptive ways of communicating distress and asking for help.
• Manage the escalation of suicidal impulses and self-injurious acts.
• Manage the difficulties of day-to-day functioning and regulate emotions.
• Work towards personalised goals and manage the barriers that may get in the way.
• Manage personal crisis through crisis planning
Sessions can take between 60-90 minutes and are initially held every week.
