As a volunteer driver or chaperone you can make a huge difference by enabling someone with a learning disability to get to a day centre they attend.
Driver – Oxfordshire
Service: GLADS
Location: Witney, Oxfordshire
Commitment: A few hours each week

GLADS is our day centre in Oxfordshire offering a range of social and skill-based activities for adults with learning disabilities, mobility impairments and other conditions.
Our activities can include:
- Sports, fitness and dance
- Music and singing
- Art and crafts
- Photography
- Supported IT use
- Working towards independent living: shopping, cooking, money management, safe use of public transport
- Outings and trips to various local places of interest
About the role
We are looking for a small team of reliable drivers, who can ideally commit to a regular few hours each week to drive either their own cars or our minibuses. You must have Category D1 on your licence or willing to take a mini bus test.
Driving hours are mainly first thing in the morning and after the session finishes at 4pm. The maximum driving hours are 2 hours per session (either AM or PM), but further details can be given upon request.

What to expect
You will find volunteering at our day opportunities a rewarding experience and a great opportunity for you to develop your skills and maybe learn new skills such as team working, listening, communication and building your own confidence.
All volunteers will receive an induction, training and on-going support in your role.
No personal care is involved and any out of pocket travel expenses are reimbursed.

Chaperone/Escort – Oxfordshire
Service: GLADS
Location: Witney, Oxfordshire
Commitment: 7.30 -9:00am then 3:00 – 5pm approximately, Monday to Friday

About the role
We are looking for volunteers to support shuttle driver in collecting service users from their homes in and around Witney and take them to our GLADS Day Centre, and then escort them on their way home.
Tasks/activities could include:
- Ensure that members travel in comfort and safety
- Ensure the members feel cared for during their transfer
- Support services users in safe use of seatbelts
- Assist service users getting in and out of the vehicle, when required
- Support minibus driver in case of any accident or incident
Requirements:
- A friendly, welcoming manner
- Patience, sensitivity and reliability
- Good communication skills
- Participating in training if required
- Working as part of the team and with Guideposts staff and volunteers
