50 years of Guideposts
50 years of Guideposts
Since its founding in 1972, Guideposts has supported thousands of people to live an independent and fulfilling life in the community. What started as a small community magazine has transformed over the years into a charity providing life-changing support to people with learning disabilities, dementia, and mental health needs.
In 2022 we marked our 50th anniversary with a series of special events to celebrate the crucial work of everyone in our community. We are also looking to the future – with the launch of an ambitious new project to meet the needs of future generations.
The story so far…
We brought the story of Guideposts alive one chapter at a time, by delving through our archives to uncover a rich history of support. Our blog series explain how it all started, how our services have grown and adapted over time, and how we got to where we are today.
How we celebrated
We ran events through the year including:
- Our first Guideposts FestivAll, providing a dedicated space for our members with learning disabilities and autism to enjoy Witney Music Festival
- A Guideposts Ball in October
- A Big 50th Birthday Prize Draw, with the draw made on our birthday, 4th December.
- Events across all our locations to celebrate the hard work of everyone in the Guideposts community

Help us build the future
As Guideposts looks to the next 50 years, we remain committed to the belief that nobody in society should be left behind, regardless of needs.
As well as our commitment to existing support, we are excited to share our plans to develop our respite camping service into a state-of-the-art facility.
Our 50th anniversary appeal is dedicated to securing the key equipment and site works we need to deliver this service.
