GLADS offer a range of social activities throughout the week for individuals with learning disabilities, mobility impairments and other conditions. Alongside cooking, fitness, craft and music, we also go on trips in the local area.

Location: GLADS, Two Rivers, Station Lane, Witney, OX28 4BH

GLADS – Guideposts Learning Activity Day Service was established 8 years ago in support of adults with #learningdisabilities living in and around Witney, #Oxfordshire. The service offers a menu of opportunities and activities individuals can choose from to ensure their weekdays are busy, enjoyable and productive. GLADS main aim is to help individuals realise their potential, build confidence, self-worth and develop supportive social networks within the learning disability and wider communities, helping them feel valued and included in their #community.

The service is based on the Two Rivers Estate in Witney. It runs Monday to Friday and offers a range of different activities including: sports and fitness, music, craft, photography, gardening, IT use, shopping, cooking, reading the News, managing social and health care issues and much more. Everyone who uses the service has a say in what activities are planned and have access to a minibus to help them get out and about.

I really like it here. Not too many people and not too noisy. Enough for me to enjoy being with other people away from home and doing different things (Service User)”

What sort of things do we do?

Some examples of activities enjoyed by current GLADS members include:

  • Sport, fitness and dance
  • Music and singing
  • Art and crafts
  • Supported IT use
  • Working towards independent living: shopping, cooking, money management, safe use of public transport.
  • Gardening @ Paradise Fields, Guideposts brand new Outdoor Well-being site
  • Outings and trips to various local places of interest (e.g. Blenheim Palace, Millets Farm, Bourton-on-the-Water)

On his behalf, I can tell you that he loves coming to GLADS. He feels relaxed, happy and has gained so much confidence. He is able to make appropriate choices and knows which activities he enjoys like sport, music, games and socialising within the group. He also loves going out and about. (Parent)”
