Burford Garden Company Partnership with Guideposts

Burford Garden Company is a shining example of an organisation who cares about their community. They have been more than generous with their time, expertise and materials, resulting in fantastic improvements to our outdoor wellbeing project, Dig ‘n’ Grow .”

Matt Jones – CEO, Guideposts

“Over these past few years, perhaps more so than ever, we have become very aware of the huge positive impact gardening has on our mental wellbeing, as well as our physical wellbeing. We are therefore all the more delighted to announce that we have forged a new bond and a new charity partnership with Guideposts Trust.”

Paul Gingell – MD, Burford Garden Company

Guideposts Trust was founded in 1972 by two local businessmen who wanted to make life better for vulnerable people in our community.

Over the last 50 years we have become a charity providing life-changing support to disadvantaged groups in our community, including children and adults with additional needs and disabilities, people with mental health problems, older people with dementia and other neuro-degenerative conditions, and families or carers of these people. We couldn’t have done this without the support of the local community and businesses such as Burford Garden Company.

Growing a new Outdoor Wellbeing Hub

Dig n Grow

Burford Garden Company have sponsored the site and made a hugely valuable contribution, providing plants and gardening equipment, horticultural knowledge and advice, and a fair bit of elbow grease!” Tim Hooper, Guideposts Operational Manager in Oxfordshire

When Guideposts took on a new outdoor site, ‘Paradise Fields’, there was a lot of work needed to make it suitable and safe for people with additional needs.

The Burford Garden Company team have contributed enormously. Here are just a few things they have helped with:

  • Draining and clearance of ditches to prevent flooding
  • Advice and assistance planting hedges, that the company also provided
  • Donating towards building a new shower and toilet block
  • Contributing towards buying tents and a barbecue for respite camping
  • Loan of a tent for Guideposts’ all-inclusive area, FestivALL at Witney Music Festival.

Paradise Fields is a special place, providing outreach to a wide community of people who benefit from gardening and working outdoors. We are grateful to Burford Garden Company for making our dreams for the site come true.

Benefits of Gardening

The benefits of just being outdoors, and near nature, can be life-changing. Research suggests that ‘Biophilia’, the bond between humans and nature, produces real health benefits, and is one of the best ways to relax, de-stress and feel a sense of wholeness. For those living in isolation or with long-term health conditions, being with nature can be one of the best therapies. That’s why horticultural therapy has been a key aspect of Guideposts’ work for many years.
