Learning Disability Week 2026

Do you see me?

Strong. Kind. Creative. Determined. Adventurous. Knowledgeable. Innovative. Thoughtful.

These are just some of the words that describe the people we support at Guideposts.

As we celebrate Learning Disability Week 2026, the theme Do You See Me? invites all of us to pause and reflect on an important question.

When you meet someone with a learning disability, what do you see? Do you see a label? A diagnosis? A stereotype? Or do you see the whole person?

At Guideposts, we see people with talents, ambitions, friendships, passions, and dreams. We see artists, singers, sports enthusiasts, technology experts, adventurers, best friends, and community leaders. We see people whose unique personalities and contributions brighten the world around them every day.

For too long, people with learning disabilities have often been defined by what others think they cannot do. Assumptions can create barriers that prevent people from being fully included in their communities, workplaces, and social lives.

“Do You See Me?” is about recognising people for who they are, not for a diagnosis. It is about seeing strengths before limitations, potential before barriers, and individuality before labels.

Every Person Has a Story. Each person we support has their own story to tell.

Some are talented artists whose work brightens communities. Others are passionate singers who bring joy through music. Some are dedicated athletes, enthusiastic volunteers, trusted friends or confident technology users. Many are all of these things and more.

At Guideposts, we are committed to creating opportunities for people with learning disabilities to seen, respected and included. That means ensuring people have opportunities to make choices, build relationships, develop skills, express themselves and play an active role in their communities.

Creating inclusive communities cannot be achieved by one charity alone; it requires the commitment and contribution of us all.

This Learning Disability Week, we invite you to join the conversation and take the opportunity to challenge assumptions about people with learning disabilities. Take the time to get to know the person behind the label.

Because everyone deserves to be recognised, valued and included.

Join Guideposts in celebrating Learning Disability Week 2026 and help us create a world where everyone is seen for their strengths, talents and individuality.
