Guideposts Trust was founded in 1972 by local publishers in Witney who wanted to make life better for vulnerable people in our community.
Over the last 50 years we have become a charity providing life-changing support to disadvantaged groups in our community, including children and adults with additional needs and disabilities, people with mental health problems, people with dementia and other neuro-degenerative conditions, and families or carers of these people.
Our Oxfordshire services started with an extensive programme of housing, friendship and counselling support, and developments have included building Britain’s first Dementia teaching nursing home in Oxford in 2000, and providing a horticultural training and therapeutic gardening service.
In Hertfordshire, we opened our Mental Health Hub in Watford in 1992, which was followed just 2 years later by our first Learning Disabilities Hub and Befriending scheme in East Hertfordshire. Our Friendship for All scheme has now been running for over 15 years.
Guideposts in Gloucestershire launched in 1997, and has grown to encompass coaching services for people with complex emotional needs, and for carers, as well as a Hub supporting people with Learning Disabilities and many dementia support Connect services.
