The Cost of Donations
From the necessity of having a bank account, to the latest technological advances that allow us to make donations in many different ways, all options for making a donation cost something to charities.
We want to make donating to Guideposts as easy as possible for our supporters. We select facilities and partners to work with, that we believe are worth the cost to us, so that the donations we receive make the biggest impact they can, to change people’s lives.
This is how much it typically costs us, depending on the method of donation.
For a £10 gift:
| Payment method | Fee | Donation less fee | Donation with Gift Aid, less fee |
| Card payment on our website | 57p | £9.43 | £11.93 |
| Paypal payment on our website | 34p | £9.66 | £12.16 |
| Card payment on JustGiving | 50p | £9.50 | £12.00 |
| Card payment on a mobile terminal (attended) | 17p | £9.83 | £12.33 |
| Card payment on a fixed terminal (unattended) | 26p | £9.74 | £12.24 |
| Card payment on paper donation form | 29p | £9.71 | £12.21 |
| Cheque paid in to bank | 75p | £9.25 | £11.75 |
The amount of your gift (ie £10 is this example) is the amount of your donation, and is the amount counted for Gift Aid, and other tax purposes, when they apply. The fees are accounted as a cost to the charity separate to the receipt of income.
