Frequently asked questions

What is Good Therapy?

Good Therapy is a counselling and coaching service for adults, created by Guideposts. We offer a warm, supportive space where people can talk openly, feel understood and explore their emotional wellbeing at a pace that suits them.

Who is Good Therapy for?

Good Therapy is for adults experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, grief, trauma, sexuality and identity questions, relationship difficulties, neurodivergent experiences, or living with a long-term health condition. We support people who may not fit neatly into traditional therapy pathways or who need longer-term, steady support.

What makes Good Therapy different?

We offer flexible, person-centred support shaped around real life. Unlike short-term therapy models, we provide longer-term work where needed, especially for trauma. We blend counselling and coaching, giving people both space to talk and practical tools for coping day to day.

How does the first session work?

The first session is gentle and exploratory. It is a chance to get to know each other, understand what someone needs and decide together how therapy might help.

How often are sessions?

Sessions are usually weekly for 50 minutes. They take place online or over the phone, depending on preference and availability.

How long does therapy last?

There is no fixed number of sessions. Some people come for a short period; others need longer-term support. Endings are planned collaboratively, with time to reflect on progress and think about what comes next.

Do you offer trauma therapy?

Yes. We offer longer-term trauma support that prioritises safety, trust and emotional stability. Trauma work is never rushed: we give it the time it needs.

What approaches do your counsellors use?

Our counsellors draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including person-centred, integrative, existential, CBT-informed and coaching-based methods. We always choose what fits the person, not the model.

How do I know if Good Therapy is right for me?

If you are looking for steady, compassionate support that adapts to your needs, especially if you have struggled to find the right help elsewhere, Good Therapy may be a good fit. The first session is a chance to explore this together.
