Who We Are
Guideposts is a life-changing organisation that supports people living with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, dementia and the carers who walk alongside them. For more than fifty years, we have been a steady, trusted presence in community life, helping people feel understood, supported and connected.
Our Purpose
Everyone deserves the chance to live a life filled with connection, purpose and belonging. Yet for many people, these simple joys can feel out of reach. Some lose confidence, become isolated or feel pushed to the edges of community life.
Guideposts exists to change that. We help people find their way back into life, not just back into services.
Our Difference
Guideposts is shaped around people, not systems. We take time to get to know people. We listen, build trust and form long-lasting relationships. Many of the people we support describe us as their extended family, a place where they feel safe, welcomed and believed in. We aim to be there for everyone for as long as we are needed.
We are inclusive. We support adults of all ages, backgrounds and levels of complexity, meeting people exactly where they are.
We walk with people at their pace. Steady, person-led, never rushed. Everyone is different, and their support should reflect this. We do not believe in one-size-fits-all. We support the whole person and all of their needs and dreams.
We are flexible, collaborative and responsive. We invest in services that are needed now and anticipate what people will need in the future. We are always thinking ahead.
We help people find their place in the community: friendships, purpose, belonging. We are rooted in the communities we serve because community-based support is more sustainable, more effective and more accessible.
What We Do
We help people with the things that matter day to day. That might be building social confidence, finding friendships, learning new skills, talking to someone who understands, trying new experiences, connecting with community life or rediscovering a sense of purpose and routine. It is real-life support that helps people move forward, one steady step at a time.
Our Impact
Every day, people tell us they feel more connected, more confident and more able to take part in everyday life again. Our support helps people move from crisis to coping to thriving, easing pressure on overstretched services and creating better outcomes for individuals, families and communities.
Guideposts makes a difference where life happens: in friendships formed, confidence rebuilt, skills learned, routines rediscovered and the quiet moments where someone feels part of something again.
“I love being with people when we’re all doing something and busy… I benefit from it physically, plus I’m out of my house.”
Tim
“I like working there with my friends. I like doing woodwork and growing vegetables… we should have lots of radishes.”
Tony
“I’m looking forward to digging and growing, particularly onions. I’m looking forward to seeing how the new polytunnel looks.”
Oscar
These voices show what Guideposts makes possible: people feeling connected, supported, purposeful and part of life again.
Our Story
Guideposts began with a simple belief: that everyone deserves the chance to live a life filled with connection, purpose and belonging. Over five decades, we have grown into a diverse, inclusive organisation supporting thousands of people across communities, always with the same commitment to walking alongside people, not ahead of them.
Our story is rooted in relationships, community and the small, steady steps that help people feel part of life again.
