A wholehearted thank you letter| Dear #GuidepostsCommunity

Dear #GuidepostsCommunity,

Thursday night saw members of the wonderful West Oxfordshire community come together to launch our brand new 33 Hi Street location and show their support for Guideposts, and with it came the opportunity for us to say a big thank you.

We welcomed over 60 people through the door, the guests present were made up of those we support and those that support us and the atmosphere was a lovely one.

A special thank you again to Charlie from X-Press Legal in sponsoring the food and drinks, the event wouldn’t have been possible without you! A huge thank you again to volunteers Paul and Michael Maycock, Marks and Spencer (M&S Food Chipping Norton) , Nationwide Building Society Witney (Pia and her team) and to ICEOxford for their help in revamping the venue and giving it a brand new coat of paint and carpets ready to welcome the local community. Thank you to Caroline from #comeaHomeArama for donating masses of home furnishings to help give 33 Hi Street a homely feel, to MyStore Self Storage and House & Carriage for helping us store and move all of thedonated office furniture. And finally, thank you to the Oxfordshire Comm Opps team, Guideposts staff and volunteers and to Jane Elliott for her work in putting the event together.

We are all very lucky to have such a supportive community in West Oxfordshire, and events like Thursday’s just goes to show how important community is to individuals, charities and businesses.

A short word from Matt Jones, Guideposts CEO;

“There is much talk in the media about England being a divided nation, one in which neighbour is further from neighbour than ever before. So, it was like a balm to my soul to see so many of the Witney and Oxfordshire community come together on Thursday night to open our new 33 Hi Street location in Witney town centre.

We welcomed; a local resident, Lights Up and Hi Street Social Supper Club attendee Ralph (who celebrates his 91st birthday today – Happy Birthday Ralph!) to cut the ribbon, an OX18 member in their 20’s gave a speech and thanked everyone for their support, local and regional councillors, representatives from the WOBAs and our local MP came along to show unity and solidarity. I surveyed the room and saw people with additional needs, carers, local businesses, social services staff and charities congregate together and share in this wonderful opportunity to tackle loneliness and social isolation in the local community. The fact we were welcomed by the Reverend into the Church buildings we are sharing, and the fact the site was for the former town asylum was poignant to me, as Guideposts was founded 46 years ago by Methodists, helping those struggling with enduring mental health problems to live in the community.”

If you’d like to get involved with Guideposts but aren’t quite sure where to start, drop us an email at info@guideposts.org.uk / kgough@guideposts.org.uk or give us a call on 01993 893 560 – we’d love to hear from you and talk about opportunities available to you. Perhaps running this year’s Oxford Half Marathon 2019 appeals to you, or the Abingdon Marathon is a tempting challenge? To make a difference today, tell someone about Guideposts, be it your neighbour, colleague, friend or family member / share this post to your newsfeed / share our page Guideposts Trust UK – the more that people know we’re there, the more people we can reach, the more we can make a difference, and the more we can grow the #GuidepostsCommunity.

We hope to share photos of the event in the coming days – keep an eye out on our socials @GuidepostsUK on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and follow the hashtag #GuidepostsCommunity. Our Spring Highlights newsletter will also be available to view on our website over the next couple of weeks, updating you on what’s happening across the counties and sharing the difference your support makes on a daily basis – www.guideposts.org.uk (for the Oxfordshire Newsletter 2019 click here).

Here’s to an exciting future and the big heart of the Witney community,
