Young Carers

Guideposts works with Be Free Young Carers (Be Free YC) to help ensure young carers age 8-24 living in Oxfordshire access the support they need.

In 2014 Guideposts partnered with Be Free Young Carers (formerly South and Vale Carers Centre), a small yet dynamic organisation supporting hundreds of young carers age 8 to 24 and their families every year.
Young carers are children and young people whose time is predominately spent helping look after a relative who has a disability, illness, mental health or substance abuse problem and whose duties go beyond what would be expected for a person of their age. Their role can, and for many, does affect their ability to access crucial social and educational opportunities with an effect on choices on offer to them and ultimately their future.

Be Free YC’s work is focussed on giving young carers access to support and opportunities that may not otherwise be available to them to help them cope better with their role, achieve better health and well-being and look to their future with greater confidence and choice.
