Mental Health Service Team Leader

Salary: £23,500 – £26,000

Location: Watford (with travel across the county)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Our Mental Health Service in Watford has been successfully supporting the community for over 25 years. The Henry Smith House service offers both building based and outreach services to individuals with Mental Health conditions in Watford and the surrounding areas.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Team Leader looking to provide direct operational support to the Hertfordshire Community Opportunity Services Manager in the effective running of the services in Watford. You will be responsible for supervising and motivating a team of support workers and to provide support services for individuals.

At Henry Smith House we work with individuals who have a Mental Health diagnosis and other complex needs, we follow the ethos of the Recovery Model of Support by engaging with individuals in developing their skills to manage their own mental wellbeing and enabling them to achieve independence and move on.  

You will undertake risk assessments and develop individual support plans to enable members to build confidence and develop skills and hobbies to live independent lives. You will also be responsible for providing person centred support and will maintain up to date computerised and manual records.

Our successful Team Leader will have:

  • Experience of working with individuals with complex and enduring Mental Health diagnosis
  • an understanding of the Recovery Model of Support
  • Experience of supervising and motivating a team of support staff to deliver the Recovery Model of Support and developing their skills and knowledge
  • Working knowledge of safeguarding procedures and adhering to health and safety practices
  • Confidence and knowledge to be able to liaise with professionals, both internally and externally to ensure the wellbeing of individuals and the service
  • Diploma Level 5 in Health and Social Care or Mental Health and Wellbeing Awareness or equivalent

You will be joining Guideposts at an exciting time of change within our Mental Health services as we embed the Recovery Model and Human Givens approach in our work. Leading by good example, you will give clear direction and support to the team members and volunteers. You will be responsible for making day to day decisions on operational and member matters, this includes processing new referrals and have responsibility for the budget in conjunction with the Manager.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has an understanding of complex mental health conditions and the needs and particular issues that people may face
  • Is a great communicator
  • has experience working in a mental health service either in the community or a clinical setting
  • can multi-task and be proactive
  • experience of leading and managing teams

Driving license and use of a vehicle is essential as you will be required to travel across Hertfordshire and attend occasional meetings out of county. An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.  The cost will be met by Guideposts.
